Breath, Movement, & Music: Celebrate with a Free STOP & FLOW Session!

This month, I’m thrilled to celebrate the incredible work our Level 2 STOP & FLOW facilitators are doing as they step into their roles, sharing this transformative process with clients. Watching them grow and bring healing to others has been nothing short of inspiring. They’re creating real change in recovery, and their dedication reminds us all of the power of mindful practices to transform lives.

Healthy Ways to Celebrate on the Recovery Journey

As we honor their progress, it’s a perfect time to reflect on celebrating milestones in ways that align with our well-being. These moments don’t just mark progress—they nurture both body and mind. Here are some ways to celebrate that can help us connect and thrive:

Mindful Movement with Music

Recently, I traveled to NYC with my husband, daughter and friends. I had the rare pleasure of being able to join in a live Peloton class at the NYC studio led by the incredible Mariana Fernández. Not gonna lie, my Spanish is a bit rusty and I was nerve-cited, as the class was entirely in Spanish. Mariana welcomed me with a hug and wisely pointed out the body understands the music. Duh…this is exactly what I tell my own clients in recovery and yet, how fast we can all forget this! The universal language of music brings us together and can empower us.

It’s why I so often guide participants through movements set to music. Just last week, I asked my women’s day treatment group to choose songs that resonate with them for our STOP & FLOW session. They enjoyed selecting their favorite songs, and shared why they chose them. We celebrated learning some new artists and were inspired to get moving as a group. As we moved with the beat, borrowing from Tai Chi and authentic movement, our energy shifted from sluggishness to lightheardedness, from fatigue to empowerment. Music truly is magic unto itself.

Our bodies respond viscerally, reminding us of our inner power. This is important to recall not only for recovery but for all of us—as we move and hear one another from the heart.

Pro Tips We Can All Hear & Lean Into this Month:

  1. Breathing & Being
Taking a few deep breaths can transform a moment into a celebration of calm. Just a few mindful breaths can shift our energy and reconnect us with the present. Many clients share that this simple practice offers them a path to inner peace and gratitude—something we can all benefit from.

  2. Expressing Gratitude
Every step in our journey is worth celebrating. Acknowledging what we’re grateful for, whether it’s a warm thank you at the checkout or giving yourself credit for pausing and breathing, amplifies joy and connection. Gratitude ripples through us, touching all parts of our lives in subtle but meaningful ways.

  3. Creating Nourishing Rituals
Savoring a cup of herbal tea or preparing a favorite meal can turn a routine moment into one of self-care that nourishes both body and spirit. When we place these moments beyond the mundane, they can shift from tedious to transformational. Establish a few restorative rituals this week, and let them invoke the spirit of the moment.

  4. Honoring Every Step Together More!
By weaving in mindful, embodied moves—what I call FLOW—breath, gratitude, and nourishing rituals become physical and transformative. These moves, inspired by Tai Chi and paired with our favorite music, layer our practice with depth, building within us a rhythm that transcends language and culture. This is why STOP & FLOW resonates with so many; it’s a reminder that we’re all connected by the rhythms and free-flowing expressions of life. We are creationary beings, unified in our movement and connection.
